From 20 November 2020 to 15 January 2021, Galerie Jacques Lacoste will present a Jean Roy\u00e8re (1902-1981) solo show : around 60 pieces will be on display, including design icons such as the Polar Bear armchair and the Creeper sconces, a straw marquetry Puddle coffee table, a Persian floor lamp, a Herringbone set (sofa and chairs) and Swallow sconces.<\/p>\n

This important exhibition will highlight the breadth of Jean Roy\u00e8re\u2019s creative range, covering both furniture and lights.<\/p>\n

Throughout his career, Jean Roy\u00e8re developed an unmatched style and soon became one of the greatest French designers of his time.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Today the wealth of his inspirations, as well as the elegance and sophistication of his designs, are still proving significant and up-to-date.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Ever since it opened in 1986, Galerie Jacques Lacoste has been dedicated to the reappraisal and promotion of 20th-century decorative arts, particularly the work of Jean Roy\u00e8re for which the gallery is the ultimate reference.
\nWith an extensive archive comprising over 10,000 documents, Galerie Jacques Lacoste ceaselessly pursues research to broaden and rationalise our expertise on the designer who embodied a new surge in the decorative arts in the 20th century.
\nTo meet this goal original images and documents comprising execution plans, drawings and vintage photographs have been systematically digitalised. This has resulted in a database which testifies to the broad scope and boundless creativity of the designer.<\/p>\n

Our archival knowledge goes together with unrelenting efforts to locate pieces by Jean Roy\u00e8re in France and abroad. The gallery particularly values provenance, and so favours acquisitions from first- hand clients or their descendants.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
