JEAN ROYÈRE
LIGNE, FORME, COULEUR

Galerie Jacques Lacoste editions

2022

Published in the wake of the “Jean Royère, Ligne – Forme – Couleur” show which took place at galerie Jacques Lacoste from November 23, 2020 to January 30, 2021, this book sheds new light on a major figure in French 20th-century decorative arts. Indeed some of his designs, such as the Liane lights or Ours Polaire armchair, have become icons in the history of furniture.

Through extensive texts, interviews, archival documents and images (from the Jean Royère archive purchased by Jacques Lacoste, but also from the Musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris and the decorator’s family archive), some 90 pieces are documented; each was displayed in the exhibition, which included some previously unknown pieces.

Jean Royère (1902-1981) initiated a style emancipated from conventions. As such he remains a prominent reference for many contemporary designers and interior designers, while his work features in the most prestigious collections worldwide.

The book includes texts by Françoise-Claire Prodhon, as well as interviews with Jacques Lacoste, Axel de Heeckeren, Raf Simons, Marie-Hélène Brian, Olivier Gabet.
